Books have always been a way to imagine, learn, experience, and understand the vastness of not only our world but the human mind and beyond. In an age where technology, click-bait articles, and image-based communication seems to be taking over the slower concept of reading a physical book, it becomes more important than ever that we cherish one of the most celebratory achievements of humankind: the book.

A timely and fascinating read, this book gives its readers a broad picture of how the British Muslim community has grown since the 1980s, and explores the themes of community activism, multiculturalism, and the illustrative and misunderstood keyword, ‘jihad’. Orientalism Beyond Edward Said: Compass (Book Review)

A complex and riveting novel, Compass is a powerful narrative on the scholarly exploits of an Austrian musicologist, Franz Ritter, who spends a lifetime exploring the fusion of Middle Eastern and Western music traditions, or, to be exact, the appropriation of the former by canonical westerners. A powerful novel on orientalism, this will definitely leave you thinking long after you’ve closed the book.

29. “Mohammed’s Koran”: Infantile, Hateful and Nonsensical (Book review)

“Mohammed’s Koran”: Infantile, hateful and nonsensical (Book review)

Not all book reviews are positive…and in this case, it becomes apparent that some books – if read at all – should be read with a (heavy) pinch of salt. Mohammed’s Koran is written by renowned Islamophobe and former leader of the English Defence League, Tommy Robinson, alongside Peter McLoughlin, and takes the reader along a journey of accusatory rhetoric, factless claims, and bigoted opinions. But the one good thing about a book this Islamophobic might just be that more and more people will see the nonsense in people like Tommy Robinson – and if anything, this might be a great addition to your fiction section!

Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world. Amounting to almost quarter of the world's population, as of 2015 there are 1.8 billion adherents of Islam.

You can use our reading lists to find the best Islamic books ever written on a variety of subjects

Our book recommendations explore the many aspects of the Muslim faith. This includes religious doctrines, but also the way that the Islamic world contributed to vital developments in science and philosophy in the ancient world. Through a more political angle, some interviews explore the place of Islam in the West , the rise of fundamentalist Islamism , and the future of the faith.

Our interviewees include Islamic scholars such as  Tariq Ramadan  and Amira Bennison , philosophers such as Peter Adamson , and critics of Islam such as  Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

During Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, Muslims fast during daylight hours and refrain from sinful behaviours. We asked Tharik Hussain , author of acclaimed travelogue Minarets in the Mountains and the new companion guide Ramadan Mubarak,  to choose five texts that offer readers insight into the true meaning of Ramadan.

The best books on Sunnism and Shiism , recommended by Toby Matthiesen

The venture of islam, volume 1: the classical age of islam by marshall hodgson, imams and emirs: state, religion and sects in islam by fuad i. khuri, book of travels (safarnāma) by nasir-i khusraw, travels through arabia and other countries in the east by carsten niebuhr, the others by seba al-herz.

In a bid to get away from simplistic explanations of why sectarian identity in the Middle East can lead to conflict, Swiss political scientist Toby Matthiesen wrote The Caliph and the Imam: The Making of Sunnism and Shiism . Here he recommends other books that shed light on Sunni and Shia differences, including a racy novel set in Saudi Arabia.

The best books on Islam and the State , recommended by Ahmet T. Kuru

Islam and the foundations of political power by ali abdel razek, the muqaddimah by ibn khaldun, the venture of islam, volume 3: the gunpowder empires and modern times by marshall hodgson, civil islam: muslims and democratization in indonesia by robert w. hefner, muslims and the state in britain, france, and germany by j. christopher soper & joel s. fetzer.

It's widely assumed that in the ideal Muslim society there is no separation between religion and the state, but even in some of the earliest caliphates, the secular and the religious were rarely as closely aligned as religious conservatives would have us believe. Here Ahmet T. Kuru , Professor of Political Science at San Diego State University, recommends books that help trace the historical relationship between Islam and the state—and points to strands of secularism that may hold the key to a happier relationship between Islam and liberal democracy.

islamic-books-in-english

Are you always hunting islamic books in english to read because of your huge appetite for reading? I absolutely get it. So many great Islamic books out there are not translated in english and that makes you want to pull out your hair since you are not an Arab or Urdu speaker (or prefer reading books in english) You get me?

I figured this list would help guide you towards investing your time and money on Islamic books in english (Most of these are originally written in Urdu/Arabic but translated in Englsih) that are concrete in knowledge, authentic and reliable. Happy reading!

7 Must-Read Islamic Books in English

Category # 1: islamic books in english- quran & sunnah, 1) tafheem-ul-qur’an (meanings of the quran – 6 vols) – english.

Tafheem-ul-Qura’n is a must-have in a Muslim household. It’s a detailed interpretation of the meanings of Quranic Ayahs. The interpretations are all backed up by hadith from various sources. The tafseer also describes the opinions of other great scholars of Islam who have studied Quran for decades.

I believe that the translation of Qura’n is a first step to forming a relationship with the Quran.  But to understand the hidden gems behind the verses of Quran, it’s necessary to expand our minds by reading the work ( tafseer ) of eminent scholars and thinkers of islam. This book was originally written in urdu, but it has now been translated in english as well.

6) Introduction to Muslim Contributions to Science and Technology

If you are still lingering to read a book all cuddled-up in your PJs on the sofa with a mug of hot yummy coffee (in my case tea) in your hand, then I’ve got another Islamic book in english for you.  This is a book that opens another world in your mind. A beautiful world of science that was created by Muslim scientists. It’s so ironic that Muslims are labelled as ” non-scientific people which rationalize everything through emotions” , while great Muslims scientists in the past have contributed heavily to Science & Technology.

Some of those honorable names are as-Jabir, Hunayn, Al-Khwarizmi, Al-Kindi, Al-Asma’i, Al-Razi, Ibn-e-Sina, Abul Qasim, Abu Al-Hassan etc.

Category # 3: Islamic Books in English- MUSLIM WOMEN

7) great women of islam.

This is another islamic book in english I recommend to all my sisters out there. It is all about the life stories of the Mothers of the believers and sixteen Prophet’s women Companions.  Among the list of Islamic books in english, this one can remind us of our role models, the pure and virtuous women of Islam, and encourage us to be more like them!

They were very active in religion as well as politics and business. They were so courageous in the battlefield, provided medical aid to the soldiers, were scholars of Islam and spread the message of Allah.

The focus of this book is upon encouraging Muslims to procure money through halal means and to abstain from haram gains.

Important books for the seeker of Islamic knowledge

Publication : 01-06-2001

We would like some advice about the books which the seeker of Islamic knowledge should obtain, study and refer to.

Praise be to Allah.

1 – ‘Aqeedah (basic tenets of faith):

1-    Thalaathat al-Usool

2-    Al-Qawaa’id al-Arba’ah

3-    Kashf al-Shubahaat

4-    Al-Tawheed

These four books were written by Shaykh al-Islam Imaam Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhaab (may Allah have mercy on him).

5-     Al-‘Aqeedah al-Waasitiyyah which deals with Tawheed al-Asmaa’ wa’l-Sifaat (The Oneness of the Divine names and attributes). This is one of the best books written on this topic, and it is worth reading and studying.

6-    Al-Hamawiyyah

7-    Al-Tadmuriyyah

These two books are more comprehensive than al-Waasitiyyah. These three books were written by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyah.

8-     Al-‘Aqeedah al-Tahhaawiyyah, by Shaykh Abu Ja’far Ahmad ibn Muhammad al-Tahhaawi

9-     Sharh al-‘Aqeedah al-Tahhaawiyyah by Abu’l-Hasan ‘Ali ibn Abi’l-‘Izz

10-Al-Durar al-Saniyyah fi’l-Ajoobah al-Najdiyyah, compiled by Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahmaan ibn Qaasim (may Allah have mercy on him)

11-Al-Durrah al-Madiyyah fi ‘Aqeedah al-Firqah al-Mardiyyah by Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Safaareeni al-Hanbali.

This book contains some general statements which go against the madhhab of the salaf, such as his saying, “Our Lord is not an essence or an attribute or a physical entity, exalted be He.”

Therefore the seeker of knowledge has to study it with a shaykh who is well versed in the ‘aqeedah of the salaf, so that he can explain the general statements in it that go against the ‘aqeedah of the righteous salaf.

2 – Hadeeth

1-     Fath al-Baari Sharh Saheeh al-Bukhaari, by Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqallaani (may Allah have mercy on him).

2-     Subul al-Salaam Sharh Buloogh al-Maraam, by al-San’aani, and his book Jaami’ bayna al-Hadeeth wa’l-Fiqh

3-     Nayl al-Awtaar Sharh Muntaqaa al-Akhbaar by al-Shawkaani

4-     ‘Umdat al-Ahkaam by al-Maqdisi. This is an abridged book; most of its ahaadeeth are narrated in al-Saheehayn so their authenticity does not need to be researched.

5-     Al-Arba’een al-Nawawiyyah, by Abu Zakariyya al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him). This is a good book because it includes etiquette and a good methodology, and important basic principles, such as the hadeeth, “Part of a person’s being a good Muslim is his leaving alone that which does not concern him.”

(Narrated by Imaam Ahmad, 1 – 201; al-Tirmidhi, 2318; classed as hasan by al-Nawawi in Riyaadh al-Saaliheen, 73; classed as saheeh by Ahmad Shaakir in al-Musnad, 1737)

This principle – if one made it the path upon which one walks – would be sufficient. Another principle is given concerning when one should speak, “Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him say something good or else remain silent.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, Kitaab al-Adab; Muslim, Kitaab al-Luqtah, Baab al-Diyaafah).

6-     Buloogh al-Maraam, by al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqallaani. This is a very useful book, especially because it mentions the narrators, and quoted the opinions of others scholars, who said whose hadeeth is saheeh and whose is da’eef, and he comments on the hadeeth to say whether they are saheeh or da’eef.

7-     Nukhbat al-Fikr  by al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqallaani. This is considered to be a comprehensive work. If the seeker of knowledge understands it completely then he will have no need of many other books of mustalah (the science of hadeeth). Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) has a useful way of writing, which involves examining every issue in depth and categorizing the topics he discusses. If the seeker of knowledge reads it he will find it stimulating, because it is based on making one think. I say: it is good for the seeker of knowledge to memorize it because it is a useful summary of the science of mustalah (science of hadeeth).

8-     The Six Books (Saheeh al-Bukhaari, Muslim, al-Nasaa’i, Abu Dawood, Ibn Maajah and al-Tirmidhi). I advise the seeker of knowledge to read them often, because that will serve two purposes: reviewing the main sources of Islam and reviewing the names of hadeeth narrators. If you often review the names of hadeeth narrators, then whenever you come across the name of one of the narrators of al-Bukhaari in any isnaad, you will know that this is one of the narrators of al-Bukhaari, so you will benefit from this knowledge of hadeeth.

3 – Books of fiqh:

1-     Aadaab al-mashiy ila’l-Salaah by Shaykh al-Islam Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-Wahhaab (may Allah have mercy on him)

2-     Zaad al-Mustaqni’ fi Ikhtisaar al-Muqni’ by al-Hajjaawi. This is one of the best texts of fiqh. It is a blessed book, brief and comprehensive. Our shaykh, ‘Abd al-Rahmaan al-Sa’di (may Allah have mercy on him) told us to memorize it, even though he had memorized the text of Daleel al-Taalib.

3-     Al-Rawd al-Murbi’ Sharh Zaad al-Mustaqni’ by Shaykh Mansoor al-Bahooti

4-     ‘Umdat al-Fiqh by Ibn Qudaamah (may Allah have mercy on him)

5-     al-Usool min ‘Ilm al-Usool. This is an abridged book which serves as an introduction for the seeker of knowledge.

4 – Faraa’id (laws of inheritance)

1-     Matn al-Rahbiyyah by al-Rahbi

2-     Matn al-Burhaaniyyah by Muhammad al-Burhaani. This is a useful and comprehensive abridged book dealing with all the laws of inheritance. I think that al-Burhaaniyyah is more comprehensive than al-Rahbiyyah in some ways, and it gives more information.

5 – Tafseer

1-     Tafseer al-Quran al-‘Azeem by Ibn Katheer (may Allah have mercy on him). This book is good for tafseer based on reports and it is useful and trustworthy. But it does not pay much attention to matters of grammar and style.

2-     Tayseer al-Kareem al-Rahmaan fi Tafseer Kalaam al-Mannaan by Shaykh ‘Abd al-Rahmaan al-Sa’di (may Allah have mercy on him). This is a good, easy and trustworthy book, and I recommend it.

3-     Muqaddimah Shaykh al-Islam fi’l-Tafseer. This is an important introduction.

4-     Adwaa’ al-Bayaan by al-‘Allaamah Muhammad al-Shanqeeti (may Allah have mercy on him). This is a comprehensive book covering hadeeth, fiqh, tafseer and usool al-fiqh.

6 – General books on some subjects:

1-     On (Arabic) grammar: Matn al-Ajroomiyyah. This is an abridged book.

2-     Also on Arabic grammar: Alfiyyah Ibn Maalik; this is a summary of the science of grammar.

3-     On Seerah (Prophet’s biography): The best book that I have seen is Zaad al-Ma’aad by Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him). This is a very useful book in which he mentions the biography of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) from all Angles, then he discusses many rulings.

4-     Rawdat al-‘Uqalaa’ by Ibn Hibbaan al-Busti (may Allah have mercy on him). This is a useful book despite its brevity. He compiled a large amount of useful material and stories of the scholars, muhadditheen and others.

5-     Siyar A’laam al-Nubalaa’ by al-Dhahabi. This book is very useful and the seeker of knowledge should read and refer to it.

Book review of "Islam: The Natural Way"

islamic book review in english

Islam the Natural Way by Abdul Wahid Hamid provides an understanding of the main concerns of Islam and the foundations on which it is built. It seeks to show that Islam is the natural way for all creation. To discover Islam is to return to one's natural disposition. To understand Islam properly is to understand something of the true meaning and purpose of life. To live by Islam is to live by natural universal value and to fulfill one's needs and obligations, naturally.

It is intended for anyone, Muslim or non-Muslim, who desires to have an understanding of the main concerns of Islam and of the foundations on which it is built.

Essentially it is a personal book. It requires you to think of reality as a whole and to ask, as no doubt you have asked, such questions as: Like countless millions before you you must have asked yourself questions such as: Who am I? Where do I come from? How did the universe come into being? What am I doing here? Where do I go from here? Where do we all go from here? It requires you to think in ever expanding circles of your own condition, your livelihood and your leisure, your family relationships, your neighborhood, community, the environment, people with differing worldviews, matters of global concern and beyond.

A beautiful book written in a style and language that is simple with a layout that has been designed to make the book easy to use and follow.

Islamic Books About Mecca

So you are looking for a book about Mecca or a 'Going to Mecca book' . You have many choices.  Some are classical and others are modern books.

This topic is important to Muslims because Mecca is the most beloved city for all Muslims.  It’s the direction they all turn to pray.

It is where the Quran was revealed and it contains the greatest mosque. It is the most important place in Islam.

Some of these books are about the Hajj (pilgrimage) and others are about the city and its history.

Hajj and Pilgrimage

If you are interested in reading about people there is an interesting book  which is daily diary of the first British woman to convert to Islam.  It covers the daily experiences of her hajj to Mecca in 1933.

"One Thousand Roads to Mecca: Ten Centuries of Travelers Writing about the Muslim Pilgrimage" is exactly what it says it is.  A collection of many writers who travelled to Mecca and who wrote about their experience .

If you want modern day books you will like some  books of modern day American converts and their description of their hajj and pilgrimage to Mecca

If you are a visual person, the book “ The Medieval Routes to Mecca ” contains great maps, illustrations and charts.

Also for images, a book by famous writer Seyyed Hossein Nasr is filled with many photos called “Mecca the Blessed, Medina the Radiant: The Holiest Cities of Islam” .  The highlight is the aerial photographs of the Arabian terrain.

Again, if you like books filled with photos then there is a book for you.  A BBC cameraman took hundreds of photos from all sorts of angles.

If scholarly and philosophical writing interests you, there is another book by a famous English Muslim writer who was a scholar and philosopher.  The book is called “Mecca: From Before Genesis Until Now” by Martin Lings .

And guess what?

Prophet Muhammad Books

You don't need to look any further for a great list of books in English.

The best books on Prophet Muhammad are both biographical and historical.  They contain descriptions of his attributes, his life and his mission.

Some are by classical Islamic scholars and others by modern day writers.

Classical Books

If you want a classical text, the classical scholar Imam Tirmidhi wrote “Descriptions of the attributes of the Prophet” .  It covers things like the physical appearance, manners, and daily habits of the Prophet.

Another written by a 12 th century scholar is “Ash-Shifa” .  All about the life of Prophet Muhammad and his miracles.

Ibn Kathir is a well-known classical scholar who wrote a book about the life and mission of the Prophet.   It is a biography of the Prophet and a small part of the history of Islam.

If you are looking for a rendering of an Ottoman Turkish text, "Muhammad: The Messenger of Islam" is a nice biographical work to read.

Modern Texts

But if you want texts by modern day writers look here.   Karen Armstrong is a British author who is known for her books on comparative religion.  She wrote " Muhammad: A Prophet for Our Time ".

If you are looking for more by modern day British writers then Martin Lings  wrote a great book called "Muhammad: His Life Based on the Earliest Sources" .  It is a biography of Mohammed.

If you are looking for a modern day Muslim writer see here. Tariq Ramadan was awarded by Time magazine for being one of the 100 most important innovators on the century.

His book "In the Footsteps of the Prophet: Lessons from the Life of Muhammad" is about the Prophet’s spiritual and ethical ways.

Also another modern day book that is based on Western scholarship is "REVELATION: The Story Of Muhammad" .  It shows the history of Mohammed.

So you are new to the Islamic prayer or you know someone who wants to know how to pray in Islam. So how do Islam pray?

You have a wide variety of choices from absolute beginner ’s guides to praying all the way to an intermediate level book on the five prayers of Islam.

Maliki School

Shafii School

Hanbali School

Here is our review of fiqh books in English for you.

If you are looking for a comprehensive Sharia law book of Shafi fiqh and laws then “ Reliance of the Traveler: The Classic Manual of Islamic Sacred Law ” is the best for you.

It is a translation of a classical text by American Muslim scholar Nuh Keller.  It is the best Imam Shafi fiqh book available in English.

If you need just an introduction to Islamic law and a smaller book of Shafi fiqh then this one, “ Al-Maqasid: Nawawi's Manual of Islam ” is better suited.

It is a paperback book with all the basic rulings you need.  It is also a translation of a classic text by Imam Nawawi.

Hadith Books

Surprising:

Hadith are the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad .

There are six main collections of hadith books in English:

Sahih Bukhari

Sahih Muslim

Sunan al-Nasa'i

Sunan Abu Dawud

Sunan al-Tirmidhi

Sunan Ibn Majah

Probably the most popular of all six collections.  If you are looking for a summarized version of the collection see this, “ Sahih Al-bukhari ”.  It is the most authentic book in Islam after the Quran itself.

For another hadith book in English there is a translation of the Muslim collection you can see “ The Translation of the Meanings of Summarized Sahih Muslim ”.  There are two books in this book of hadith.

Many people like the collection of Ibn Majah .  It contains over 4000 hadiths.

This three book set of  “ Sunan Abu Dawud ” would be a good choice too.  Abu Dawud collected half a million hadith in his life but only included 4800 in this collection.

For a larger set of books you could choose “ English Translation of Jami' At-Tirmidhi ”.  It is a six book set of hardcover books.

Another of Tirmidhi is this summarized set of two books.

If you are looking for Nasai then this six book set is what you need .  Nasai was from Persia.

“ An-Nawawi's Forty Hadith ” is a famous collection by Imam Nawawi.  It is a short book.  Nice gift for anyone as a hadith book in English.

Another by Imam Nawawi is “Riyad As Salihin: The Gardens of the Righteous ”.  It is so popular that it is probably on the shelves of every mosque in the world.

Another important collection of hadith is “ Forty Hadith Qudsi (Islamic Texts Society) ”.

Hadith Qudsi are the sayings of God rather than the sayings of Prophet Muhammad.

Did we give you a good list of books of the sayings of the Prophet Muhammad?

Does it sound good ? Yep.

12 Best Islamic Books For Kids [Toddlers to 10 Year Olds] Reviewed And Ranked

As a father of three beautiful children, I’m always looking for books that help me introduce my kids to Allah, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and enhance their understanding of the fundamentals of Islam.

Unfortunately, most Islamic books for children are either too advanced or not engaging enough.

I’m sure you’ve also faced this challenge as a concerned Muslim parent.

So, in this article, I’ll share a list of some of the best Islamic books for kids that I’ve found over the years.

I’ve linked each book to its Amazon page, where you can read its reviews and buy online.

Disclaimer: I get a commission from Amazon when you buy any of these books using my links (at no extra cost to you).

3. Allah Loves You

7. but who is allah, 12. taleem ul islam [english], best islamic books for children in english – ranked & reviewed.

To make it easier for you to find the right books, I’ve divided them into three categories for children of different ages.

Remember, to develop a reading habit in your children, you’ll have to read most of these books to your child. So, if you struggle with reading regularly, watch this video, it has some great tips.

Best Islamic Books For Toddlers

It’s rare to find good toddler books about Islam because most Islamic books are loaded with text and very few illustrations.

But these books are different.

1. My First Book About Allah

Not sure how to introduce your child to the concept of Allah, worship, and loving your creator? This book is a great help.

I loved it because it uses colorful images and easy language to simplify complex concepts. It doesn’t complicate things for your child and tells them about Allah and what He means to us using examples, images, and illustrations.

The paper quality is great, and the colorful design is exactly what attracts children.

Ideal for children around 3-4 years of age.

2. My First Book About Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

Telling our kids about the beautiful personality of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and instilling his love in their hearts is critical.

This book does a fabulous job of highlighting Prophet Muhammad’s qualities in simple words for young children. It is full of colorful pages and illustrations that kids find appealing and relatable.

Read 1-2 pages from this book to your kids at bedtime to gradually introduce them to the most complete man to have ever lived.

Best Islamic Books for Kids - My First Book About Prophet Muhammad - Sara Khan Amazon

Most Muslim societies teach their children to fear Allah from a very young age.

I don’t agree with this approach.

We should first develop the love of Allah Taala in our children’s hearts because once they start loving Him, they’ll automatically fear doing anything that displeases Him.

This book, Allah Loves You, is designed to present Allah SWT as our loving creator. It does so by sharing beautiful illustrations, examples, and colorful pictures.

Islamic Books For Kids [4-6 Years]

When children reach the age of 4-5, they start asking innocent questions about Allah, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and different aspects of Islam.

Your answers leave a lasting impact on their minds and often shape their future beliefs. So, this is the time when you guide them by reading informative books that gradually introduce them to the different concepts in Islam.

Here are some of my recommendations.

4. My Baby’s First Islamic Words

We read A for Apple and B for Ball in our school days. But what if we use these letters as an opportunity to introduce our children to different Islamic concepts?

That’s precisely what this book does.

It is a colorful and attractive book designed for preschool children and uses the English alphabet with an Islamic perspective.

For example, instead of A for Apple, it says A for Allah and B for Barakah. It also has a short explanation of each word and what it means in an Islamic context.

5. Wonders Of The Muslim World Coloring Book

Our children can easily recognize the Statue of Liberty or Burj Khalifa. But do they know about the Blue Mosque, Badshahi Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and other such marvels of Islamic architecture worldwide?

This coloring book will not only help your kids improve their drawing and coloring skills but also introduce them to the most prominent mosques, buildings, and landmarks in different Muslim countries.

Why is this important?

Because it will make your kids proud of the Muslim Ummah’s accomplishments and make them curious about our glorious past.

6. Prophet Stories For Kids

According to research , bedtime stories play a vital role in shaping a child’s intellectual capabilities, beliefs, ideals, and aspirations.

This is why telling them meaningful stories that inspire them to aim high is critical to their development as good Muslims and human beings.

This book narrates the true stories of four Prophets – Moses, Adam, Nuh, and Ibrahim عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ – from the Holy Quran in easy-to-understand language, using colorful images and illustrations.

Best Children’s Islamic Books [7-10 Years]

Once your child reaches the age of 7, you must gradually educate them about the fundamentals of Islam, the basics of the Islamic lifestyle, and the concept of halal and haram.

And most importantly, you should start teaching them how to offer Namaz according to Sunnah because Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has instructed us to teach Namaz to our kids when they’re 7 years old.

Here are a few books that will help you enhance your child’s knowledge about Islam.

8. The 5 Pillars Of Islam

The whole foundation of Islam stands on the five pillars of Kalimah e Shahadat, Namaz, Roza, Hajj , and Zakat.

This book describes these pillars through an engaging story of a young girl who visits her grandmother.

It uses attractive images and colorful illustrations to ensure your child remains engaged while reading the book.

9. 30 Days Of Learning And Good Deeds

This book is a bit text heavy, but it contains some excellent exercises to help your children enhance their knowledge about Islam and become better human beings.

The main idea behind the book is that it gives you and your child 30 different challenges to complete in 30 days.

These challenges include things like being more thankful to Allah, not disobeying parents, being more disciplined in daily life, asking Allah for help in every matter, and gaining more knowledge about the blessed life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

However, your child will need your help in navigating this book because it can be a little complex for their understanding.

10. Morals And Good Character

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has emphasized good manners and declared them the criteria of a complete Muslim.

But good manners and character building must start at an early age.

Apart from leading by example, you must also formally educate your child about good and bad manners and what are the qualities of a good Muslim.

This book will help your cause as it describes different Islamic morals and shares ways to develop them in your child.

11. Little Zaid’s Journey To Salah

When your child turns 7, you must start teaching them how to offer namaz as it is commanded by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

However, you must do it in a friendly way by explaining the benefits of Salah and why we need to offer it. Show your kids how Namaz makes your life more disciplined, increases your faith, and makes you a better human being. Also, explain the reward for offering Namaz in this world and the hereafter.

This book shares the journey of a child named Ziad, who has turned seven and is now learning Namaz.

It walks you through the common questions children have about namaz and helps you describe this critical part of Islam with Hikmah.

It teaches children the fundamentals of Namaz like:

  • Being regular in prayer (especially Fajr and Isha)
  • Making Wudu
  • The faraiz and sunnahs of namaz
  • Reading surahs from the Quran.
  • Durood sharif, dua e qunoot , and the duas to read in Namaz

Taleem ul Islam is one of the classic books taught in religious schools around the world. It is written for children aged 7 and above and lists all the foundational questions that you need to answer your child as a parent.

For example, it asks simple questions like

  • “Who am I?”
  • “What’s the purpose of my life?”
  • “What happens after this life?”
  • “Who is Allah?”
  • “Who is Prophet Muhammad?”
  • “What are angles?”

The Q&A style format of this book makes it perfect for teaching it to your kids. Written by Mufti Kifayatullah, a renowned scholar from the subcontinent, this book is originally in the Urdu language, but its English translation is also available.

It’s a must-have book for kids and elders alike.

The Right Way To Read Islamic Books To Your Children

Children don’t understand the significance of Islamic knowledge at their age. So, don’t try to force-read these books otherwise, they’ll start running away from it.

Instead, make it an enjoyable activity without making it a burden. Do it by reading just one page every day when they’re relaxed (at bedtime or at the dinner table).

Let them ask questions and be patient while answering them.

Remember! Children are curious and don’t realize the importance of these books like you.

So, be patient and take it slowly.

Alexandria: The City that Changed the World

Title: Alexandria: The City that Changed the World
Author: Islam Issa
Audience: General Public
Difficulty: Easy
Publisher: Pegasus Books
Published: 2024
Pages: 496

"Alexandria: The City That Changed the World" by Islam Issa is a biography of a city. It explores the history of Alexandria, Egypt, and its place in our collective memory. It is in part history book, essay, and travel guide, suitable for casual readers. Issa covers up to the 1952 Egyptian Revolution through the lens of his family history. Along the way, he describes the physical city, from the waterfront Qaitbay Citadel where the Lighthouse of Alexandria once stood to the congested downtown.

The book begins with Alexandria 's founding by Alexander the Great after he conquered the Persian Empire . Like its legendary namesake, the city was destined for fame. Its strategic and symbolic value made it a coveted prize of world conquerors like Augustus , Napoleon Bonaparte , and Admiral Nelson. The city witnessed the death of Cleopatra , Christianity 's triumph over paganism, the rise of the Islamic Caliphates , and the Industrial Age. Even today, Alexandria is an important center of trade , culture , and industry.

The Ptolemaic dynasty , who ruled Egypt in the interim between Alexander and the Roman Empire , transformed it into their crown jewel. Through institutions like the Library of Alexandria , the city became a capital of knowledge and scholarly collaboration. The combined civilizational heritage of East and West birthed a unique urban culture and architectural marvels. This wealth and cosmopolitanism attracted the artistic and scholarly communities that shaped the city's image.

Issa is a professor of literature and history at Birmingham City University, and his family lived in Alexandria for generations. The result of his experience is a powerful monograph on the city’s cultural significance. It is firmly rooted in historical fact, and it is easy to pick up on Alexandria's personal importance to the author. In the prologue, he recalls his father's old stories about Alexandria's former glory, and how they took on new significance for him as he confronted the legacy of Alexandria as an adult. The memory of the ancient city lives on as part of Egypt’s national mythology , inspiring modern-day monuments and legends.

Rather than repeating myths, Issa seeks to critically examine them in light of factual evidence, allowing both the real and imaginary Alexandria to exist side-by-side. At the beginning of the book, there is a series of maps depicting the city at different points in time, from its foundation to the 21st century. It also contains a collection of photographs, some capturing the city today and others portraying its historical sites and artifacts. While intended for casual readers, the book has endnotes and a bibliography to point readers in the direction of further study.

The author concludes the book with an examination of Alexandria's identity and Egyptian national identity in the present day. In contemporary Egypt, there is broad support for historical preservation, but politics determine which histories are deemed worthy of preservation and which are censored. Environmental changes and the rapid construction of an ever-growing modern metropolis on top of the ancient city threaten archaeological efforts. As has been true since the city’s foundation, what is believed about Alexandria’s past – and what it means to be Alexandrian – is constantly changing.

Memoir by Trump’s Nephew Will Shed Light Into ‘Darker Corner’ of Family

Fred C. Trump III’s “All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way” will hit shelves July 30.

A photo of Fred C. Trump III, the nephew of former president Donald Trump, standing in front of Rockefeller Center.

By Elizabeth A. Harris and Alexandra Alter

Fred C. Trump III, the nephew of former President Donald J. Trump and the older brother of Mary Trump, will publish a memoir about the Trump family, according to his publisher, Simon & Schuster.

The memoir, titled “All in the Family: The Trumps and How We Got This Way,” is set to come out on July 30 from Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster — just a few months before the 2024 presidential election, in which former President Trump is running as the presumptive Republican nominee against President Joe Biden.

Gallery described the memoir as a “candid and revealing” account of what it was like to grow up in the Trump family, and noted that the book will include “never-before-told stories” that shed “a light into the darker corner of the Trump empire.” The publisher also stated that Mr. Trump was motivated to tell his family’s story because of the upcoming election, and suggested that his book could “shape the decision of a nation.” It was not clear to what extent “All in the Family” would focus on former President Trump, or in what light. Gallery declined to share more information about the book beyond a brief description.

Fred Trump III, who has largely remained out of the public eye and has not been a vocal critic of the former president, declined to be interviewed, according to his publisher.

The memoir will add another layer to the complex and often combative Trump family saga. Fred and Mary Trump are the children of the former president’s older brother, Fred Trump Jr., who suffered from alcoholism and died of a heart attack in 1981. After their grandfather Fred Trump Sr.’s death in 1999, Mary and Fred Trump filed a lawsuit contesting his will , arguing that they had been cheated out of their inheritance by their father’s siblings.
