Everyone should follow a daily routine . As a student, I follow a very simple and easy routine for myself. I have made this routine with the help of my brother and one of my teachers. My day starts very early in the morning. 

I get up at 5 o’clock and go for a morning walk . I am very aware of my health. I try my best to keep myself fit and fine. After the morning walk, I bath with cold water and then take a rest for 10 minutes. 

After the rest, I eat my breakfast. And then I go to my reading room . I love to read science and English in the morning time. It’s the best time to concentrate on study. Then I prepare myself for school. 

Exactly at 9.30 o’clock, my father takes me to school. I come back from school at 3 PM in the afternoon. I eat my lunch in the school break time, I keep my food with me. Then I take a rest in my home and go out for playing cricket. 

Then I come back home before getting dark outside. I start reading at 6 PM and read till 9 PM. Then I eat my dinner. Before going to sleep, I watch television for 30 minutes. That’s all my daily routine. 

My Daily Routine Essay in 300 Words

Introduction: 

If you are following a daily routine that could bring some serious changes in your life. First of all, it will let you live a life in a fixed schedule and you can manage things in a better way. For the students, it’s a mandatory thing to follow. 

Because it can improve your study style and get better results for yourself. I also follow a daily routine as a student, and I am going to share things about my routine here. 

My Daily Routine: 

My routine is very simple but I follow it very strictly. Take a look at my daily routine here. 

4.00 AM – I get up early in the morning. 

4.00-4.20 AM – I brush my teeth and wash my face. 

4.20-5.00 – I go for a small morning walk and some basic exercises. And I get back to home. 

5.00-5.20 – I take a shower with cold water. 

5.20-7.00 – I prepare all my school tasks and homework. 

7.00-7.30 – I eat my breakfast. 

7.30-9.00 – Again I study and prepare my school tasks. 

9.00-9.30 – I prepare myself for going to school and got to school. 

9.30-3.30 – I spend all these hours in the school. I eat my lunch there. I keep my food with me. I love eating lunch with all my friends. 

3.30-4.30 – I get back to home and take rest. 

4.30-6.00 – I play cricket outside and then get back to home. 

6.00-9.00 – I study a lot in that time.

10.00 – I go to sleep after eating my dinner and watching TV for 20 minutes. 

That’s all about my daily routine. 

Conclusion:

I make some changes in the routine when I have free time or leisure time. Overall that’s a huge experience for me to follow this productive routine.

Introduction:

If you want to get the best result from your work, then you need to manage time properly. And time management becomes so easy when you are following a daily routine. As a student, I follow a very strict but simple routine and it helps me a lot to improve my study and other things. Today I will share everything about my routine. 

My Daily Routine:

My day starts very early in the morning. I wake up at 4 o’clock. I used to wake up very late, but when I heard about the health benefits of early rising , I started to get up early. Then I brush my teeth and go for a small morning walk . 

I enjoy the walk very much because it helps to feel good in the early morning. Sometimes I do some basic exercises too. Then I take a shower and eat my breakfast. Then I prepare my school tasks. I love to study math and science in the morning time. 

Because I can give better concentration on that period. I get ready for my school at 9 o’clock and my mom drops me there at 9.30 o’clock. I spend most of the time on my day at the school. I eat my lunch there in the school break time. 

I come back from the school at 3.30 PM and then I take a rest for 30 minutes. I love to play cricket in the afternoon. But every day I can’t play. 

My Evening and Night Routine:

When I get back home after the playing in the field, I feel very tired. And then I wash and take rest for 30 minutes. I eat some juice or something else that my mom prepares for me. I start to study at 6.30 PM in the evening. 

Most of the day, I keep reading till 9.30. That’s the most important part for my study. I prepare all my homework and do some extra studies too. And then I eat my dinner and watch Television before sleep. 

Conclusion: 

That’s all about my daily routine. I try to follow this routine always. But sometimes I need to bring some changes in the routine. And when I spend holiday and off day from school, I can’t follow this routine at all. I think this routine is helping me to use my time in the best work and complete my study tasks properly.

To become successful, everybody should follow a strict schedule or routine. Especially in student life, we need to maintain our time properly. If we fail to maintain time then we can’t make a good result in the examination. 

Today I am going to share my daily routine and my experience here. I am a very regular guy who follows a routine. I made that routine almost six months ago with the help of my elder brother. 

I make some small edits and changes in the routine due to my own preference. 

I consider the morning is the most important part of the day. In the morning, you will find lots of peace and a calm environment. My class teacher suggested me to get up early morning. I followed here that suggestion very seriously and that made my day. 

Now I always get up at 5 o’clock in the morning. First of all, I go to the washroom and brush my teeth. I wash my face and wipe the water with a towel. Then I go for a small morning walk. I know the morning walk is very important for good health. 

Sometimes, I do exercise too. Most of the time I walk almost 30 minutes and the doctor said that’s enough for me. This little workout keeps me strong for the rest of the day. I come back to home after the walk and get fresh again. 

I eat my breakfast then. After eating breakfast, I study Math and Science in the morning time. I think morning is the best time to study. 

School Time: 

I go to school at 9.30 o’clock in the morning. My father drops me here with his car. I get a break at 1 o’clock after four classes in a row. And finally, I go home at 4 PM with my mom . 

She comes to pick me up from school every day. Because it takes almost 20 minutes to go home from school by car. I enjoy school time very much.

Eat and Sleep Routine: 

I eat my breakfast and then I eat my lunch in the school break time. I take my lunch with me. My mother is very aware of my food. She always cooks something interesting to me. I love eating Pizza and Burger, but she doesn’t buy me that kind of fast food. 

She prefers to cook them for me. I love her cooked Pizza very much. And finally, after reading and watching TV at night at 10 o’clock, I go for my sleep. When I go to bed, I think about my entire day. 

Holiday Routine: 

When my school is close and I have lots of spare time, my daily routine becomes a bit different. I add time for video games, playing in the field with friends, and spending more time with my cousins. 

That’s all about my daily routine. I love to follow this routine and I am very serious about it. I think It’s perfect for me. You can follow my routine too.

But finally, I came with a very productive and successful schedule of my life. I suggest you look back on your day and think about how do you spend your time. You need to find where should you spend most of your time and where not.

Revision in the morning helps me understand better in class.

My Daily Routine

Every morning I wake up at 5 am to the sound of my brother’s alarm which wakes me up. Exercising in the morning keeps me energetic and active the entire day. The fresh aroma of roasted coffee beans from the kitchen indicates coffee time. Later, I diligently sit for my morning studies and revise the previous day's concepts.

By 8:00 am, I’m ready for school. My mother prepares a delicious breakfast which I eat while watching the daily news along with my brother. 8:30 am I leave for school on my bicycle. Halfway, my friends join me. After lunch, I prefer light walking and freshening up for the afternoon study session. Classes end by 3:30 pm. After school, I go to the playground with my basketball team, where we practise for 2 hours, and I reach home by 6 pm. I finish my homework before supper.

Before going to bed, I prepare for the next day at school. Weekends are more relaxed. Mornings are usually spent cycling with friends. Afternoons, I help my mother grocery shop and cook in the kitchen. In the evening, I visit my grandma and have dinner with her.

“Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise” is taught to us from childhood. Following the principle, I begin my day early, around 5 am. I spend the first hour of my day exercising with my brother. I love sunrises. Around 6 am, I take a pleasant walk in the park with my pet dog “Candy” enjoying the beautiful, heartwarming morning light.

My Morning Routine

After the walk, I freshen up and study for an hour. I start with the daily newspaper, followed by my curriculum subjects. At precisely 8 am, we all gather at the dining table to have our breakfast. By 8:45, everyone departs for their respective work. I will reach school in 15 minutes by bicycle. Classes begin at 9:30 and continue till 12:30 pm.

My Afternoon Routine

Lunch breaks are always fun. I share my lunch with all my friends. I, along with my friends, walk to the dining hall; on the way, I make sure to go through the school's bulletin board. We discuss sports, television serials, and games while having our lunch. Lunch breaks are when I meet my seniors, discuss my doubts, and ask for their suggestions.

Classes go on till 3:30 pm. The last hour of the day is dedicated to PTE or games. This is the time when I relax and have fun. We indulge ourselves in fun games like running, tennis, basketball etc.

My Evening Routine

By 4:30, on the way home, I like stopping by my favourite chaat shop and enjoying some delicacies there. After arriving home at 5:00, I relax for an hour, eat some snacks, and watch my favourite tv show. 6 - 7:30 I go out to play.

By 7:30 pm , I’m back to studying, finishing my homework, and revising the day's curriculum till 8:30. We have our supper by 9. Everyone updates about their daily happenings during supper. I watch television for some time after dinner and finally am off to bed by 10 pm. I end my day by offering my gratitude for everything.

My Favourite part of the day

The time I have my supper is the best part of my day. I enjoy it a lot. My father usually asks us about our day. He usually tells us stories from his office, cracks jokes, and sometimes asks us puzzling questions. The winner gets to choose the tv program to watch. Later, the entire family goes out for a short walk with Candy. It's the perfect way to end the day with love, warmth and togetherness.

Before you can create an effective daily schedule, it’s important to analyze your current time usage. Spend a few days tracking how you spend your time. Take note of your habits, routines, and the tasks you engage in daily. This will provide valuable insights into areas where you can improve your time management.

1. Start by listing the activities you participate in daily, both work-related and personal. Be specific and include the duration and frequency of each activity. For example:

  • Work (8 hours)
  • Commute (30 minutes x2)
  • Morning routine (1 hour)
  • Evening routine (1 hour)

2. Once you have a list of your activities, categorize them by their importance or priority. You can use the following categories to help you:

  • High priority (Tasks essential to your work and personal life)
  • Medium priority (Important, but not urgent, tasks)
  • Low priority (Non-essential activities, such as hobbies or leisure time)

3. Next, analyze how much time you’re spending on each category. Are you dedicating enough time to high-priority tasks? Are you spending too much time on less important activities? Reflect on these questions and use your findings to optimize your future daily schedule.

By first blocking out time for these essential activities, you ensure that your basic needs are met, which can help improve your overall productivity.

Allocate Time for Work and Play

  • Once you’ve blocked out time for necessary activities, it’s time to allocate time for work and play. Start by setting aside time for your job or schoolwork. If you have a fixed work schedule, this is easy to plan around. However, if your work hours are flexible, try to assign specific hours dedicated to work tasks each day. This will help you maintain a consistent routine and prevent work from taking over your entire day.
  • Next, consider your personal and leisure activities. Think about your hobbies, exercise, and time spent with family and friends, and schedule them into your day. My Daily Routine (An Example of How to Find Work-Life Balance)

Identifying what to work on is a constant, daily struggle.

As a​ busy person, you’re faced with a seemingly infinite amount of opportunities. 

What do I write next? Do I need to answer the 40 emails in my inbox? Should I pursue a new project that might take my ​career to the next level? 

These are the questions you might wake up to every morning.

The problem is, we don’t have a boss telling use what’s important. Often, we began each day by working on the tasks that seemed urgent, but aren’t critical to the success of the business—like checking email or social media.  

​So if you’re having trouble coming up with ideas for your daily routine, then ​here is an example routine that I follow as an entrepreneur.

Why Does a Daily Routine Help

I used a simple (but effective) productivity hack. I start each day by identifying two to four critical tasks and adding them to my Most Important Tasks (MITs) list.

These are the tasks I work on first thing in the morning. The key here is to use specific metrics so I know whether I’ve accomplished my goals or not.

A great way to start your daily morning routine is by identifying two to four critical tasks and adding them to your Most Important Tasks (MITs) list.

As an example, I’ll create tasks like these:

  • Write 2,000 words of the daily routine book.
  • Record Youtube video for my new Steve Scott Show Channel
  • Complete conversations 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 (each number represents a specific meeting).
  • Create a new squeeze page for the Develop Good Habits blog.

This small daily action has had a positive impact on my business and personal life .

Each day, when I complete these tasks, I know the priority tasks have been accomplished. Even if something unexpected comes up in the afternoon, I know I’ve done the important tasks that drive my business forward.

Example of a My Daily Routine

Morning routine.

Usually, I’ll wake up at around 7 a.m. and immediately start my habit-stacking routine , which includes the following tasks:

  • Making my bed (just like the book says to )
  • Washing my face
  • Drinking a pint of lemon water
  • Preparing and drinking a nutritious smoothie ( like this green juice product .)
  • Reviewing my goals
  • Writing down two to four important tasks for the day

I end this routine by completing a new habit I’m trying to build into my life. For example, I’m currently trying to master the 10-minute declutter habit.

Around 7:30 a.m., I head out for a walk. I always bring my iPhone to use the Stitcher app to listen to a variety of podcasts on topics such as self-publishing, internet marketing, investing and other motivational podcasts .

Also, I keep the Evernote app in a key location on my phone—in case I want to record an idea from one of these podcasts

From 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., I do my first (and sometimes only) block of writing. Usually, I work on a Kindle book, blog post or piece of content. On occasion, I’ll write something for my own personal enjoyment.

From 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., I’ll do a few different things: work on a project, reply to messages from key members of my team or complete a number of small tasks. These activities typically relate to items on my MITs list. The benefit here is that they provide a break from writing, but they also help me improve my business.

Afternoon Routine

From 11 a.m. to noon, I’ll relax a little by eating lunch, reading a nonfiction book for 30 minutes, running a few errands or driving to a nearby Starbucks coffeehouse to get out of the house.

The 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. time-slot is very flexible. Depending on the day (and specific deadlines), I do a number of things: write for a few more hours, clear out my email inbox, work through the steps of a current project, record a few podcast episodes or outline a future idea.

Evening Routine

Six p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (or sometimes 8:30) is exercise time. I either do another walk (usually with my wife) or go for a run. If I’m training for a marathon, sometimes the long run will extend into the evening.

After 8 p.m. is relaxation time. My wife and I will eat dinner, do a little cleaning and basically unwind for the rest of the night.

At 11 p.m., I’ll go to bed and do a little bit of fiction reading. I usually fall asleep around 11:30 p.m.

Exercise is an important part of my daily routine. 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. (or sometimes 8:30) is exercise time.

Special Considerations

The above was a “normal” day, but there are few weekly events that impact how my workday is structured.

I like to time-block my week so all conversations (podcast interviews, masterminds, collaborative sessions, and networking) happen on Wednesdays. I typically have anywhere from two to six conversations on this day. As an introvert, having regular conversations requires a lot of energy, so I prefer to get them all done in a single day.

Every other Thursday, I drive down to my parents’, which is an hour and a half from my home. Once there, my entire family goes to dinner. Then I spend the night at their place and we see a movie together the next the afternoon.

Finally, my Fridays are very flexible. Sometimes I’ll work the whole day, but on other days I’ll do a few things in the morning, then relax for the rest of the day and most of the weekend.

I’ve read your routine witha bit on envy, because you actually have the freedom to shape your day. I wish I have it…

I won’t describe my routine in details, I would need a book for that. If you have ever visited my Lift profile, you surely noticed I have 30+ daily habits. But because of my past choices I’m slaved to 9 to 5 job. So my habits float around my days. I have preferences, but not a rigid schedule. Even my morning routine is sometimes done in the afternoon (when the morning is disrupted eg. by working till 3 am).

My morning routine is structured very similar to Hal Elrod’s miracle morning encompassing 6 important areas – self analyzing, prayer, focus on my mission, exercises, reading… And I write 1000 words a day. I try to do it as soon as possible in the morning (usually on a train to work).

I certainly do know from seeing you on lift that you follow a kick ass routine encompassing all the important stuff… and you are right, I am blessed with the freedom to accommodate my lifestyle. It woul certainly be a hell of a lot different if I was at a 9-5 job and had kids to deal with in the evening. Different…but I would like to think I would still get the important things done.

Do you need a daily schedule, 5 things to consider before beginning daily scheduling, 5 simple steps for creating a good daily schedule.

Let’s get into it! 

What is a daily schedule? 

At the most basic level, a daily schedule is a time-bound to-do list for a day. It consists of specific tasks, meetings, and other activities assigned to specific time windows throughout an entire (work)day.

You prepare a daily work schedule in advance, allocating available time for various activities in a way that will help you get the most out of your limited hours. Typically, the reason for creating a daily schedule is to help balance a multitude of tasks and responsibilities and do so productively.

That said, to create a GOOD schedule, you also need to take into account reality. Let’s illustrate that by comparing a standard template for a daily schedule with what a real day looks like in practice: 

  • A standard daily work schedule template: Task 1, task 2, task 3, lunch, meeting, task 4, task 5. 
  • An actual work day: Task 1, coffee & chitchat, task 1, social media, task 2, get stuck, task 3, lunch, back to task 2, progress interrupted by meeting, task 2, stuck again, task 3, task 2. 

(Un)fortunately, we’re not robots isolated from the flow of daily life. We all have peak productivity hours when everything just clicks, and we all have troughs when all our energy is expended resisting the urge to take a nap. Plus, it’s a regular occurrence for plans to change – an unexpected meeting, completing a task quicker (or slower), a change of priorities, an unexpected office birthday party, etc. 

Much of the value of a daily schedule lies in helping you complete tasks and stay organized. But if your plans are constantly disrupted, then you’ll feel like you’re perpetually falling behind, you’ll feel disorganized, and all that the daily schedule will do is cause unnecessary stress and pressure. 

That’s why I suggest we revise our definition of a daily schedule from the beginning of this section to – a daily schedule is a time-bound to-do list for a day that’s as realistic as possible .

There are many potential benefits. Of course, which of those you actually make use of will depend on how you use your schedule and the nature of your work. That said, you can expect to:

  • Stay organized – by outsourcing your time management, you can be constantly on top of priorities, tasks, and deadlines. 
  • Be more productive – approaching work in a structured manner helps tackle it more effectively and avoid procrastination.
  • Experience less stress – knowing what’s on your plate and when you’ll work on it alleviates the stress of juggling multiple projects or tasks at once. 
  • Make better use of your time – in a similar vein, not jumping from task to task will help you stay focused and make the most of every minute.
  • Better understand your work patterns – sticking to a daily schedule can boost your self-discipline and provide a clearer picture about where your time goes and how much of it. 

All in all, to create a daily schedule seems like a no-brainer. It may appear that all you need to become a superstar worker is to start scheduling. So should you create one right now? And how to make a daily schedule for yourself? 

Let’s come back to reality – creating and following a schedule is not easy. For one, you need to have a good grasp of your work patterns, expectations, deadlines, potential disruptors, upcoming commitments (meetings), and more. Plus, following a schedule demands serious discipline. 

Creating a schedule is also a task unto itself. You need to gather and analyze your workload and organize it in a realistic way, which can take a sizable amount of time. Are you ready to dedicate 30 minutes every day to organizing your tasks? Heads up – most people will answer yes, and while it’s fun at first, the novelty of it quickly wears off, as the planning increasingly starts to feel like a chore. 

That’s why so many people who start a daily work schedule struggle to keep up with it. But to truly tap into the benefits, consistency is key.

Moreover, the value of a schedule depends a lot on your line of work. The people who will benefit the most are those who have a lot going on, i.e. multiple projects, meetings, deadlines, and other things that split your attention every which way. On the flip side, if your daily workload is linear – in that your responsibilities are stable and clear – then a daily schedule may have less added value. 

This isn’t to say that you wouldn’t benefit from a daily work schedule. Rather, it’s worth considering whether the effort of putting one together is worthwhile. Maybe all you need is a to-do list. 

If you’ve decided that a daily schedule is exactly what you need, then here are some factors that you should take into account to get the most out of it.

1. Account for breaks

Did you know the most productive people work for 52 minutes and then take a 17-minute break ? Breaks are an invaluable component of productive work. Whether it’s to grab a coffee or socialize with colleagues, it’s imperative that you make some space during the day for some decompression that helps you get re-energized for the next leg of the day.

2. Leverage time-blocking and other productivity-boosting methods

Time-blocking , eating the frog , Pomodoro timers , and other methods that help you be more productive can easily be integrated into your daily schedule. By doing so, you can get even more out of your day and maximize the value of having a schedule. 

3. Build around your productivity patterns 

Different people are most productive at different times of the day. Some thrive in the early morning, while others peak in the afternoon when they’re finally fully awake. You can identify your productivity patterns with tools like DeskTime and then build your day around them, e.g. if you’re most focused in the morning, then schedule deep work for that time, while avoiding meetings and other distractions. 

4. Expect distractions 

Even the best-crafted schedule will get disrupted. Meetings will pop up, some tasks will take longer, and priorities will change. It’s inevitable. That’s why you should be ready to respond to these disruptions. This might entail adjusting your schedule or, on the contrary, returning to it after a disruption, depending on its type and disruptiveness. In either case, it’s a smart idea to give yourself some leeway when scheduling to account for some distractions. 

5. Plan for maintaining your schedule

As mentioned previously, daily scheduling is a lot of work. Unless you’re happy to take care of it after hours, you should make some room for planning during the workday.

So, how to make a daily schedule?

Before we begin, here’s what you should expect – you’ll get your first schedule wrong. Unless you’re incredibly in tune with your work, you’ll likely underestimate some tasks, overestimate others, forget about some commitments (is the quarterly company all-hands on the horizon?), and more. 

But, that’s fine. Scheduling is a skill and it’ll improve as you train it. The most important part is staying consistent. 

Step 1: Write down all your tasks for next week

Take your time and write everything down – that includes specific tasks, scheduled meetings, and anything else that’s on your plate. If you’re primarily working on a single large project, don’t hesitate to break it down into smaller chunks, e.g. “writing an article about daily schedules” would break down into research, writing, editing, getting approval and outside input, as well as publishing. 

Step 2: Fill out your daily work schedule layout with non-negotiable activities

Now, let’s give your days a basic structure by noting key activities. For example, a call with the CEO or a daily stand-up with the team are things that are likely mandatory, hence, it makes sense to start populating your schedule with those. 

In this step, I also strongly recommend including time for lunch and breaks. Give yourself at least 10 minutes every 2 hours to recharge + at least 30 minutes for lunch. 

Step 3: Prioritize and organize your tasks

We should already have some things crossed out from the list we made in Step 1. Now take a look at the rest and prioritize tasks by deadlines, impact, and/or dependency (i.e. do you or other people depend on you completing this for another task). 

Obviously, those with shorter deadlines will need to be taken care of sooner. Likewise, tasks with a bigger impact should be your priority over those that are less important. And some tasks will naturally precede others, e.g. you cannot edit the article before it’s written. 

Step 4: Fill the rest of your schedule – strategically

Now that you have an overview of what’s on your plate, as well as a basic daily work schedule format for your day defined by non-negotiables and breaks, it’s time to fill out the rest of the schedule. 

First, pay attention to deep-work windows, namely, prolonged time periods when your productivity is at its peak, and find the most suitable tasks for those. For instance, the writing part of writing an article requires focus and no distractions to be completed efficiently. So it’s a good task to dedicate your peak hours to.

In the same vein, you’ll have some hours of the day where you’re less productive and it’s wise to fill those with less intense tasks.

As your schedule fills up, you’ll have less and less room for your remaining responsibilities, making it increasingly easy to slot them in somewhere. Let deadlines guide your hand, or, if all else is equal, you can simply go by gut feeling or personal preference. 

Step 5: Iterate, optimize, and adapt

As mentioned before, your schedule won’t reflect what your day or week will really look like. Interruptions are inevitable, but that doesn’t mean you’ve failed your schedule. All you have to do is adapt. As you get more comfortable with scheduling, you’ll learn to:

  • make room for unexpected events, 
  • quickly reorganize your plans,
  • be more accurate with estimating time for tasks,

Remember, it takes time to build a habit, but once you do, you won’t be able to imagine work without your daily schedule. 

Hopefully, you now have a better grasp of the difference between a daily schedule and a GOOD daily schedule. Clearly, creating one that truly benefits you and your work takes more than just haphazardly jotting down some tasks in a planner. It demands serious planning and dedication and the daily schedule ideas in this article should help.

Whether you’re a student, employee, or stay-at-home parent, keeping a schedule can help you manage your time and be productive. Thankfully, making and keeping a schedule isn’t hard to do! With a few scribbles in your planner or tabs on your screen, you can have an efficient plan for the day in no time. Keep reading to learn how to schedule your day and be as productive as possible.

Things You Should Know

  • Write down everything you must do for the day on a piece of paper or in a notes app before making your schedule.
  • Schedule your day using time slots to stay on task. Plan each hour of your day to get started, allowing extra time for tasks so you don't fall behind.
  • Prioritize tasks or events that have deadlines or fixed times. For instance, schedule your day around work meetings, homework assignments, or appointments.

Step 1 Pick a calendar...

  • If physical planners and calendars aren’t your thing, there are a ton of scheduling apps you can use on your phone. Stick with your phone’s calendar or notes app, or try one like TimeTree or Any.do .
  • Consider using a bullet journal to create your own calendar and to-do list spread to perfectly match your needs.

Step 2 Write down everything you need to accomplish for the day.

  • Finish module 3
  • Stretching and jogging
  • Zoom meeting

Step 3 Color-code your tasks so your schedule is easier to read at a glance.

  • Use a colored pen, marker, or highlighter to help organize your tasks in a physical calendar or planner.
  • Type in different text colors on a digital calendar or create each task with a different colored label.

Step 4 Prioritize each task on a number scale to determine what’s important.

  • Which task is due first or has a deadline?
  • Which task takes the longest time to complete?
  • Is one task more important than the others?
  • Which task will be the most challenging?

Step 5 Note if any tasks are time-sensitive.

  • For example, you may schedule time to study (2 hours), work out (1 hour), write emails (30 minutes), and walk the dog (30 minutes).
  • Always overestimate how long something will take by a few minutes. Add 25% to the time you allot for tasks in your schedule (for instance, schedule something that takes an hour for an hour and 15 minutes0. This extra time add up and provides a cushion to help you avoid being late or falling behind.
  • There may be some overlap with tasks of high importance and time restraints, and that’s okay! More often than not, the tasks that need to get done have a designated time they must be completed by.

Step 7 Leave space in your schedule for flexibility.

  • For example, you could schedule 2 hours of free time between dinner and bedtime to chat with friends, catch a movie, or read a book.

Step 1 Check your calendar or planner throughout the day.

  • Schedule alarms on your phone or computer to remind you of certain tasks or appointments. This way, you won’t miss a thing (even if your physical planner isn’t on hand).

Step 2 Cross off tasks as you complete them.

  • If you’re using a digital planner or calendar, use a text strikethrough or italic formatting option to show you’ve completed a task.
  • If you don’t complete a task on time, don’t sweat it! If it’s low priority, you can always schedule it for tomorrow. If it’s high priority, try to squeeze it in somewhere else on your schedule.

Step 3 Adjust your schedule as needed.

  • Even so, be careful not to let your tasks pile up and spill over into the next day too frequently. If you find this happening a lot, try giving yourself more time for each task rather than rearranging the next few days.

Step 4 Reward yourself when you’ve completed your tasks.

  • Reward yourself by soaking in the tub, watching your favorite TV show, or splurging on a sweet treat.

  • Try to slightly overestimate how long things will take, but try not to take that long. Set goals for improving your time. Just don't rush or you won't do well on the project/task.

School Routine

My school routine is:

  • Attend morning prayer at 8:30 am
  • Work through classes
  • Lunch at 12:30 pm
  • Go to the school library
  • PE classes on Mondays and Wednesdays
  • Go home at 4 pm

Routine For Eating And Sleeping

Here is my routine for eating and sleeping:

  • I always go to bed by 9 pm and not any later.
  • I have oats, a banana, and a glass of orange juice for breakfast at 8 am.
  • Lunch should be pretty basic- dal, rice, meat, ground eggs, and coconut water.
  • Dinner should not go past 7.30 pm. For dinner, I take soup along with a hearty meal.

  • Do something that you enjoy that is not writing.

Ultimately, the goal when suffering from burnout is to become revitalised. And becoming revitalised is most possible when the writing schedule alters daily to keep things fresh and not repetitive.

Every writer’s worst nightmare! It happens to all. Writer’s block can leave writers feeling guilty and stuck. However, every job has its difficulties, and writer’s block is the one writers are doomed with. 

Sometimes having a writing schedule can incite writer’s block as the schedule can impede the writer from being immersed in the story.

To overcome writer’s block, perfectionism needs to be refuted. Your writing is not always going to be perfect. Imperfections and problems are completely normal. And there is always going to be time to change parts, which is why scheduling is beneficial. Scheduling encourages a writer to plan the different stages of their writing clearly.

Active ways to overcome writer’s block include:

  • Removing distractions.
  • Listening to music.
  • Getting the blood flowing e.g., exercising, dancing, etc.
  • Watch a Film/TV Show to encourage you to get lost in a story again.
  • Simply write- Write anything, anywhere, at any time, just get words out of you to incite the act of writing daily.
  • Re-establishing the schedule- Rearranging your writing process e.g., doing the more exciting parts first can inspire you to get back into the whole routine. 

Don’t be afraid of these obstacles that can occur with writing schedules. It is completely normal. Don’t blame yourself and don’t beat yourself up.

It is easy to overcome the obstacles that can happen if you look at how you’re feeling, where you are in the writing process, and see what needs to be changed in the schedule to keep you energised as a writer.  

Now that the negatives have been addressed, it is time for the positives. The benefits certainly outweigh the challenges of writing schedules. The main point of a writing schedule is to place the writer in control. This is apparent through the positives


Having a writing schedule encourages self-discipline as a writer. You know what you need to do daily and have the ability to get it done. A writing schedule acts as a daily checklist, so by ticking off the goals there is a sense of accomplishment, which encourages you to carry on.

The writing schedule becomes a writing routine that sustains self-discipline. So, the more disciplined, the more in control a writer becomes. It gives your writing stakes, setting an end goal and challenging you to keep up with it every day in order to reach this end goal.

This is all good advice. I would add two things. First, stay fit and healthy. One of the worst things for creativity is to be suffering from an illness, which depletes both your physical and mental energies. Secondly, I find it’s a great help to dream and/or daydream: use your imagination to visualise the scene and the characters, putting yourself amongst them. This is where the real writing takes place: in your head. The rest is just the mechanical process of banging it into the computer. Oh, and please ensure that your computer is reliable!
