NTU’s MA in Creative Writing is one the longest-established postgraduate courses of its kind in the UK and many of our graduates from this course have successfully published their work. This course is renowned for its lively community of writers and teachers and you’ll get the chance to explore a selection of genres including fiction, poetry, children and young adults fiction.

We have strong, professional links to many well renowned industries including Nottingham Playhouse and Times Literary Supplement. Applicants who hold a good honours degree ( minimum 2:2) will be considered for this course but applications are primarily assessed on the quality of the writing sample and statement.

NTU’s School of Arts and Humanities has some of the finest writers in the country on its staff, in fiction, poetry, scriptwriting, creative non-fiction, and other genres. Many of our members are also academic and press critics. Our students often do extraordinary things. This is a great place to find out about what these writers do, what they’re up to, and how you can get involved. We believe in community and communication, the principles of open inquiry, and great writing – wherever it comes from.

NTU’s School of Arts and Humanities is also home to the Centre for Research in Literature, Linguistics and Culture . Most of our staff and PGR members are also members of this Research Centre, and the points of connection are multiple and varied. We urge you to check that out too.

Asia Creative Writing Programme

The Asia Creative Writing Programme is a joint initiative between the  National Arts Council of Singapore and the School of Humanities at  Nanyang Technological University .

Leading international and local writers are appointed as Visiting Writers to teach creative writing workshops and masterclasses, as well as mentor and guide emerging, developing and advanced writers in Singapore.

Mission & Aims

Our mission is to enrich creative writing education by:

  • Expanding development opportunities for writers and​ deepening intercultural understanding within Singapore and across the region

The aims of the Programme are to:

  • Give a strong foundation to promising writers and translators across Singapore and at Nanyang Technological University and the National Institute of Education
  • Support the existing literary talent pool in Singapore by providing specialised development programmes to advance their creative practice
  • ​Promote intercultural understanding and exchanges between translators and writers writing in Singapore’s four official languages ​(Mandarin, English, Malay, Tamil)​

Local and international writers of excellent standing are invited to write and teach creative writing within the School of Humanities (formerly the School of Humanities and Social Sciences).

In November 2019, the School of Humanities at Nanyang Technological University and the National Arts Council agreed to develop the relationship further and establish the Asia Creative Writing Programme.
